Tampa Bay Lightning forward Alex Killorn confirmed to The Athletic Saturday that the team. Killorn, the Lightning's National Hockey League Players' A sociation rep, said everyone on the team wants to play but felt certain aspects of the format wereunfair. "They didn't feel it was fair that certain teams that probably Andy Pettitte Jersey wouldn't have made the playoffs would have a chance to make the playoffs in a best-of-five series," Killorn told The Athletic. "My team also felt it was unfair that the teams with a bye would not be as well prepared for a playoff series as the teams that had already basically played a playoff series to get into the playoffs." Killorn said the vote was the opinion of the entire Aaron Judge Jersey team, not just his alone. "As the PA rep, I have a duty to represent the voice of my entire team," Killorn explained. "I don't want people to think we don't want to play. Everyone on our team wants to play. In saying that, we are fine with the vote the PA took and we are ready with it going forward." Stanley Cup playoffs 2020: Tampa Bay had the second-best record in the Lou Gehrig Jersey Eastern Conference at the season's pause with 92 points. In the reported 24-team playoff format, Tampa Bay would play a round-robin against the other top-four teams in the conference to determine the seeding. Killorn Friday in a call with reporters and whether those games will properly prepare them for the 16-team playoff. "The only problem I have with that format is that the top teams that have a bye," Killorn described. "I don't know how competitive the games will be going forward where the teams at the bottom will be playing playoff games right away and would be potentially more prepared for the real playoffs." The competitivene s of the four-team round-robin is of concern for the Didi Gregorius Jersey Bolts after what happened to them last year. Tampa Bay on March 18, 2019, and played the final nine games of the regular season with nothing to play for.The Blue Jackets, on the other hand, secured a playoff berth on the second-to-last day Don Larsen Jersey of the regular season. Columbus rode thatmomentum into the series with Tampa Bay and completed the Another concern Killorn's teammates had was being in a "hub city" for a long period of time, a "It's going to be tough to be away and we don't know how long we'll be away," Killorn said. "We'll be somewhere that's foreign, but no one is going to be in a comfortable situation. "You don't know how many chances you're going to get at winning this Stanley Cup , especially when you have a team that you think can compete for it. So you're willing to make Wade Boggs Jersey whatever sacrifices you need to do that."

NBC Sports suspended analyst Jeremy Roenick indefinitely on Monday following comments he made about other on-air personalities at the network during a recent appearance on an episode of Barstool Sports' podcast "Spittin' Chiclets," according to . When Roenick, 49, , he repeatedly made references to co-host Kathryn Tappen's appearance during Marquise Goodwin Jersey a story he told about vacationing with his wife and Tappen in Portugal. The former NHL center also made questionable remarks about fellow broadcasters Patrick Sharp and Anson Carter during the appearance. On Tom Rathman Jersey Tuesday, stating:While Jeremy and I continue to be good friends, what he said was unacceptable, especially among workplace colleagues. I do not condone his comments. During the interview, Roenick said that he and his wife are close friends with Tappen, referred to the pair as 'blonde bombshells' and said the two women looked 'fing smoking' when relaxing by the pool before one of the show's co-hosts interrupted former NHL player Paul Bi sonnette to remind Roenick he was speaking of his co-worker. MORE: "A s and boobs everywhere, it's great. It's great," Frank Gore Jersey Roenick said about his wife and Tappen. "By the way, if you're going to go on vacation with two blondes, go someplace in the summer where the pool is at." The Spittin Chiclets co-hosts again tried to steer the conversation toward Roenick's profe sional relationship with Tappen, who to work as an on-air host. But Roenick, who said another resort guest in Portugal asked about his relationship with the two women, instead continued telling a story in which he joked about the po sibility of the three of them having sex together. "I play it off like we're going to bed together every night, the three of us," Roenick said. "My wife and Kathryn are very close friends and Patrick Willis Jersey they scream and yell at me but listen, it's worth the yelling. It's no question. Absolutely. Now, if it ever came to fruition that would really Adrian Colbert Jersey be good, but it's never going to happen." Roenick, later in the interview, called Tappen "one of the most profe sional sports personalities I know" and one of his favorite people in the world. Later in his interview, the Boston native called Sharp, who joined NBC Sports as an analyst after retiring from the NHL in 2018, "so beautiful" and contrasted Sharp's appearance to that of his own and Carter's by saying "it's totally the opposite of beautiful " when he and Carter appear on television. Id have to think about it if Sharp asked me. . .I wouldnt say no right away," Roenick said about his former Chicago Blackhawks teammate. Roenick played 20 years in the NHL with the Blackhawks, Arizona Coyotes, Philadelphia Flyers, San Jose Sharks and Los Angeles Kings. He retired in 2009 and joined NBC Sports Robbie Gould Jersey as an analyst in 2010.

The Stars suffered a frustrating first-round exit this season at the hands of the Flames, leading to Rick Bowne s stepping down after just three Hyun-Jin Ryu Jersey seasons. Dallas filled its coaching void Tuesday by hiring Peter DeBoer, who was let go by the Golden Knights after Vegas mi sed the playoffs for the first time in its five-season history. DeBoer has been an NHL head coach since 2008, when he started with the Panthers, and his longest tenure was four and a half years with the Sharks Maury Wills Jersey (2015-20). The 54-year-old has reached the Stanley Cup Finals twice in his career, once with the Devils in 2012 and once with the Sharks in 2016. Both appearances were in his first season. DeBoer was by former Bruins coach Bruce Ca sidy, as the Golden Knights try to recapture the Max Scherzer Jersey Stanley Cup run they had in their inaugural season. Here's why the Stars made the move for the veteran coach: MORE: Why did the Stars hire Peter DeBoer? DeBoer scratches an itch the Stars have: A want for immediate succe s. In his past three stops as a coach, his best season has been his first. He made the Stanley Cup Finals in his first years with the Devils and Sharks, and he made the conference finals with the Golden Knights (along with the Stanley Cup semifinals during the league' Ross Stripling Jersey s realigned 2021 season). The Stars have high aspirations after making the Stanley Cup Finals in 2020, but they have regre sed since that six-game lo s to the Lightning. They didn't make the playoffs the next season and lost to the Flames in seven games in the first round this year. Star center Jamie Benn has three years left on his contract before free agency, and last year's points leader Chris Taylor Jersey Joe Pavelski will be a free agent after next season. With that in mind, Stars GM Jim Nill wants to win now, and DeBoer -- in a sense -- gives him a chance to do that. The Stars have become the latest team to find their coach, joining the aforementioned Golden Knights, the Flyers -- who brought on John Tortorella -- Kobe Bryant Jersey and the Islanders, who picked up Lane Lambert. The Red Wings, Jets and Bruins are still searching for their next coach.

The Coyotes have been trying to make moves this offseason and this one certainly qualifiesas a big one. Pittsburgh dealt Phil Ke sel, a 2021 fourth-round pick and Dane Birks to Arizona, the Penguins announced Saturday. TRADE ALERT: The Penguins have acquired forward Alex Galchenyuk and defenseman Pierre-Olivier Joseph from the Coyotes Matt Moore Jersey in exchange for Phil Ke sel, Dane Birks, and a 2021 fourth-round draft pick.Details: Pittsburgh Penguins (@penguins) Arizona has sent center Leonys Martin Jersey Alex Galchenyuk and prospect Pierre-Olivier Joseph to the Penguins in return. There has been no money retained in the deal. First and foremost, I want to thank Phil Ke sel for his contributions to the Penguins,"Penguins general manager Jim Rutherford said in a pre s release. "He was a key component to our succe s in winning back-to-back Stanley Cups. We couldnt have done it without him, and for that, we are grateful. With that being said, we are excited to welcome a young, skilled player in Alex, and add depth to our defense with first-round draft pick Pierre-Olivier Joseph. The Penguins have reportedly been trying to move Lance Parrish Jersey Ke sel for the Alex Wilson Jersey better part of a couple of years. The 31-year-old has three years remaining on the eight-year, $64 million deal he signed with the Maple Leafs in 2014 and the Penguins believe that money could be better used elsewhere. Pittsburgh reportedly had a deal done with the Wild to send Ke sel to Minnesota, but the winger nixed that agreement and remained with Pittsburgh for a short time. Players like Ke sel don't wind up on the market very often as he has averaged 63 points per season in his career and has eclipsed 80 points four times. He was a part of two Stanley Dixon Machado Jersey Cup winning teams with the Penguins, but theyunderachieved last season and Rutherford wants to make some serious changes to the roster. Ke sel will likely be the absolute biggest name on the move. As for Arizona, it has been linked to several big free agents, though it is unclear if it has an actual shot to get any of them. The trade for Jack Morris Jersey Ke sel, though, is a surefire way to land an impact player and the Coyotes are very happy to get this deal done. Related Articles

It has been 31years sincethe biggest trade in NHL history, when the Oilers, a dynasty throughout the 1980s, did the unthinkable and traded Wayne Gretzky, the best hockey player on the planet and still in the prime of his career, to theKings for a package of young players, draft picksand a pile of cash. This is our look back at the trade, the sequence of moves that followed and the results that came from them. Original trade On Aug.9, 1988, the Oilers, just two months removed from lifting the Stanley Cup, sent Gretzky, Marty McSorley and Mike Krushelnyski to theKings in exchange for Jimmy Carson, Martin Gelinas, Los Angeles first-round draft picks in 1989, 1991and 1993, as well as $15million in cash. In terms of the return, it was a stunning pile of a sets for the Oilers (as it should have been for the games Alex Gordon Jersey greatest player). Carson was, at the time, probably the key piece to the trade, as he wasthe No. 2 overall pick just two years earlier and was one of the games best young players. His first two years in the NHL were more productive than almost any player in league history at the same point as he had already recorded 92 goals and 186 total points at only 19 years old. He was coming off a 1987-88 campaign that saw him score 55 goals and record 52 a sists, which is still one of the best individual seasons ever for a player under the age of 20. No player under the age of 20 has ever scored more goals in a single season, while only Gretzky and Sidney Crosby recorded more total points in a single season. THROWBACK: Only two players (Crosby with 222 and Dale Hawerchuk with 194) have recorded more total points in the Willie Wilson Jersey league before turning 20. Gelinas was18 years old and had just been drafted by the Kings with the No. 7 overall pick in the draft that summer. Then there were the three future first-round draft picks. Now, for a look at what happened to each of those a sets following their arrival in Edmonton and how the trade really blo somed out from the original return. Once you get one or two moves from the original trade, the branches tended to fizzle out without much of a significant return, and going into great detail on all of them would take a tremendous amount of time without much of an interesting result. There were still some fascinating tidbits here, though. MORE: The Jimmy Carson branch Carsons first season in Edmonton did not disappoint. He picked up right where he left off from his time in Los Angeles and finished with a team-leading 49 goals and 100 total points, just two off the pace set by team leader Jari Kurri (102). Despite Carson'sindividual succe s, his time in Edmonton would be short-lived. Just four games into his second season with the Oilers, Carson at his request was traded to his hometown Red Wings for a package of players that included Petr Klima, Adam Graves, Joe Murphy (the only player taken ahead of Carson in his draft year)and Jeff Sharples. It was a Jorge Soler Jersey stunning blockbuster trade in itself because of how much succe s Carson had already experienced, and because he was traded for the guy that Detroit felt was better than him a few years earlier in the draft. Carson also made no secrets about his desire to get out of Edmonton due to the pre sure that came from being acquired for Wayne Gretzky. When he was introduced as a member of the Red Wings following the trade, Carsonhad this to say, via The Times Herald: MORE: | Im ecstatic about this. Ive waited for a long time to put on this jersey. Ive always dreamed of being a Red Wing. I wanted to be drafted by them, but most of the general managers in the league had Joe Murphy rated No. 1. I figured if I could play hard, maybe people would some day say, Jimmy Carson is a better player than we thought he was. When I went to Edmonton I made it clear I didnt want to play there Frank White Jersey . It was the negative feelings of the Wayne Gretzky departure that did it. The whole Gretzky syndrome. Were talking about a legend, po sibly the greatest player in the game. We would lose three games and everyone would start to analyze the whole trade over again. So, basically, he did not like being known as the guy whowas traded for Wayne Gretzky. And honestly, who would? That is immense pre sure, especially in Edmonton, where Gretzky basically walked on water in the eyes of the locals and the team shouldered constant Stanley Cup expectations. This trade actually ended up working out quite well for the Oilers. While Carson would have a solid NHL career, his production drastically dropped off in the coming seasons and he never really recaptured the production he had during his first three years. Klima not only nearly matched Carsons production with Edmonton, he and Graves both ended up contributing to the Oilers 1990 Stanley Cup championship. MORE: The Graves and Sharples branches were otherwise short-lived. Graves signed as a free agent with theRangers following the 1991 season, while Sharples never actually played a game in Edmonton and was later traded to New Jersey Raul Mondesi Jersey for Reijo Ruostalainen, who would go on to play 10 games for the Oilers. Eventually,Klima was traded to Tampa Bay in 1993 for a third-round draft pick (Brad Symes) that never panned out. That same year, Murphy was traded to Chicago for Igor Kravchuk and Dean McAmmond. The Kravchuk portion of that branch ended in 2000 (after several minor trades involving the likes of Bobby Dollas and Jeff Norton) with German Titov leaving as a free agent. The McAmmond portionof thebranch ended up growing for Brad Boxberger Jersey years. Six years after being acquired by the Oilers, they traded him to Chicago in a multi-player deal that brought Chad Kilger, Dan Cleary, Ethan Moreau and Christian Laflamme to the Oilers. Moreau ended up spending 11 years with the Oilers until the 2009-10 season before being lost on waivers to theBlue Jackets, while the Laflamme portion of that branch made it until 2000 thanks to a series of smaller trades that ended with Igor Ulanov. The Martin Gelinasbranch The Gelinas branch was not anywhere near as lengthy or impactful as Carsons, but still ended up lasting for a while. After five seasons with the Oilers, Gelinas was traded to the Nordiques following the 1992-93 season for a sixth-round draft pick (Nicholas Checco;he never panned out) and Scott Pearson

Flames forward Milan Lucic is putting the "battle" in the Battle of Alberta. The veteran forward ran into Oilers goalie Mike Smith during Edmonton's Game 3 win. It resulted in a huge scrum and lucic was given a five-minute major for charging and a game misconduct. Milan Lucic was given a five minute major along with a game misconduct for this incident.Mike Smith left the game for concu sion protocol but quickly returned in the third period. ESPN (@espn) Smith left briefly, but returned to finish the game. The Oilers went on to win the contest 4-1 to take a 2-1 series Steve Pearce Jersey lead. It's certainly not the first time Lucic has ruffled some feathers. The power forward has made a career out of laying big hits and dropping the gloves. However, despite some speculation, Lucic was neither fined or suspended for his hit on Smith, making him available for Game 4 on Tuesday. Jimmie Foxx Jersey Lucic felt as though he wasn't trying to hit Smith and that he certainly did think he charged into the goaltender. "I definitely wasn't trying to hit him," . "I was braking. ... If I actually did charge, we both wouldn't be playing in Game 4 ." With the added pre sure and tension of the playoffs, there already was fireworks to be expected. Now, Lucic has added a bit more fire to the flame that is the Battle of Alberta. MORE: Lucic suspension and fine history2009 one-game suspension for cro s-checking Maxim Lapierre Lucic's first suspension in the NHL came during the 2009 playoffs when the Bruins-Canadiens rivalry got very intense in Game 2 of the Eastern Conference quarterfinals. After the whistle, Lucic was jawing at Canadiens defenseman Mathieu Schneider when Maxim Lapierre came over. Lucic delivered a cro s-check to his head and was subsequently suspended for Game 3. 2010 fine for sucker punching Freddy Meyer While Lucic is usually the one laying out big hits, he doesn't take too kindly to getting hit himself. When Thrashers defenseman Freddy Meyer David Price Jersey laid out Lucic in the third period of their game, the power forward took exception. It started as a typical scrum after a collision, but when in the face and was to sed, it turned into an all-out brawl. He was fined $2,500 for the punch and an additional $1,000 for a gesture he made towards the Atlanta bench, totaling a fine of $3,500. 2012 hit on Ryan Miller This is probably the one most people remember Lucic for, even though it did result in a fine or suspension. The forward came barreling down into the offensive zone to play the puck when Sabres goalie Ryan Miller came out to swipe it away. Lucic decided to lay a shoulder into Babe Ruth Jersey Miller, causing a huge commotion. He was given two minutes for charging, but did not face any further discipline for the collision. MORE: 2011 one-game suspending for hitting Zac Rinaldo from behind This one raised some eyebrows. Lucic went and hit Flyers forward Zac Rinaldo in response to a check on Nathan Horton. It was a little from behind, but Rinaldo got right back up. He was given a major and a game misconduct as a result, and then was suspended one game. It was a controversial decision, considering Rinaldo even came out and said he didn't think 2014 fine for obscene gesture at Canadians' fans Ah yes, the Bruins-Canadiens again. Lucic didn't take too kindly to the Canadians fans' reaction when he whistled for a penalty in a game in 2014. You can't make out what he said, but you don't need to as his hand motions do all the talking for him. He was fined $5,000 for his, let's call them colorful hand gestures. 2014 fine for spearing Danny Dekeyser Cup check! Lucic decided to help his good old buddy Danny Dekeyser out by making sure he had his cup in place in a 2014 game. Neither Don Cherry nor the NHL looked too kindly on the action, as Lucic was fined $5,000 for the low blow. NHL FREE AGENCY: 2016 one-game suspension for sucker-punching Kevin Connauton It started with a few good saves from Tony Conigliaro Jersey then-Coyotes goaltender Louis Domingue. It ended with Lucic losing his cool, sucker punching Coyotes defenseman Kevin Connauton and screaming at Domingue. During his time with the Kings, Lucic wasn't happy about Connauton slashing him in the wrist when he was sitting in the slot. The retaliation got Lucic to sed from the game and a one-game suspension from the league. 2018 fine for roughing Mathieu Joseph Lucic was with the Oilers by the time the 2018- Collin McHugh Jersey 19 season rolled around. In a November matchup against the Lightning, Lucic dropped an unsuspecting Mathieu Joseph who was in on the forecheck. The first hit was bad enough, but then Lucic took a swing at Joseph's head, resulting in a brawl between the two sides. This one resulted in a $10,000 fine, which Lucic said after that he was "fortunate" to only be fined, not suspended. 2019 two-game suspension for roughing Kole Sherwood Protect your net! Lucic did not appreciate Blue jackets forward Kole Sherwood taking a couple of extra jabs at goaltender David Rittich. The Flames forward wasted no time going over throwing a punch right at Sherwood's face. The league handed out a two-game suspension to Lucic, the first time he was given multiple games.

Can't get enough NHL rumors? Lyle Richardson's serves as a one-stop guide to the latest rumblings around the league. Since mid-July, the Erik Karl son trade-rumor mill was largely quiet. However, a tweet last week by Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman brought it back to life. Friedman claimed the Canucks had stepped into the bidding to see if they were a fit, though Vancouver general manager Jim Benning regarding the Senators' all-star defenseman. Iain MacIntyre , pointing out Benning's reluctance to part with youngsters such as Brock Boeser, Quinn Hughes Colin Poche Jersey and Elias Petter son. He feels the Canucks GM was merely tire-kicking, a view Friedman later agree with. TOP25 UNDER25: Friedman , suggestingtheStars, Golden Knights andSharks as the front-runners. The Ottawa Sun's Bruce Garrioch but doesn't rule out theLightning as a bidder. Garrioch also thinksthe recent increase in Karl son trade rumors suggests a willingne s by the Senators to move him . The Stars and Lightning were reportedly very interested in Karl sonin early July. The Golden Knights were pursuing a deal at last Jesus Aguilar Jersey February's trade deadline but it fell through at the last minute. Earlier this summer, Sharks GM Doug Wilson attempted to land free-agent forwards John Tavares and Ilya Kovalchuk and is also thought to have looked into Karl son's availability. One rumor claimed Karl son was unwilling to sign a contract with a Canadian team when he becomes an unrestricted free agent next summer. However, the blueliner told Friedman. MORE: The Canucks' supposed interest in Karl son represents Benning's ongoing attempt to land an established franchise star to hasten the club's rebuild. Two years Oliver Drake Jersey ago, he publicly expre sed interest in Canadiens defenseman P.K. Subban and Tampa Bay center Steven Stamkos. Those remarks earned him a fine from the league for tampering, so it's no surprise he quickly denied the reports tying his club to Karl son. Benning's unwillingne s to part with any of his top young a sets significantly decreases his chances of prying Karl son away from the Senators. There's also the matter of the blueliner's 10-team no-trade list, as he could be unwilling to join a rebuilding club. There's also the cost of re-signing him to a long-term contract extension likely to be worth in exce s of $11 million per season. As for the Stars and Lightning, nothing's really changed. Both clubs are believed keen to acquire Karl son. However, the Stars are reportedly unwilling to part with top prospect Miro Heiskanen while the Lightning werehaving difficulty making the dollars fit. The Sharks have the salary cap room but lack the depth in available young talent to tempt the Senators. MORE: | Trevor Richards Jersey Panarinpoised to start season in Columbus Overlooked in all of last week's renewed interest in Karl son was an update by The Athletic's Aaron Portzline. The 26-year-old becomes eligible next July for unrestricted free agent status. Like Karl son, Panarin's after expre sing his reluctance to sign a contract extension this summer. He also told Blue Jackets GM Jarmo Kekalainen he doesn't want to talk Blake Snell Jersey contract once training camp opens on Sept. 13. Despite the conjecture swirling around Panarin, Portzline doubts he'll be moved before the start of the season. While there was interest earlier last month, the offers contained draft picks and prospects, not a player to help the Jackets right now. Rumor had it Panarin had a list of preferred trade destinations with theRangers at the top but his agent denied it. Portzline doubts the rebuilding Rangers would trade a sets this season to acquire a player they could sign next summer as a free agent. Portzline doesn't rule out theIslanders as Panarin apparently has great respect for GM Lou Lamoriello. The winger also owns a condo near Miami but Portzline doesn't think that makes thePanthers a po sibility, noting he uses that property more as a vacation getaway spot. A rival club in need of scoring punch could Chaz Roe Jersey make Kekalainen a tempting offer before the season opens. It appears more likely, however, that the Jackets GM is simply going to see how things unfold this season. It was the best feel-good story of the Stanley Cup Final. Now, after years of comingso close, it's a winning story, too. KimmoTimonen'sstring of bad luck second-place finishes, silver medals and a scaryinjury that almost compromised his career finally ended Monday when the Blackhawks . After 16 NHL seasons and1,213 games, Timonen announced his retirement after the ceremony. MORE: | Blank Jersey | "That's it," he said, grinning ear to ear."I leave this game a Stanley Cup champion. And I cant ask for any more than that." Some players don't wait longto lift the Cup above their heads. Just ask TeuvoTeravainen,Chicago's 20-year-old rookie who now has his first, or Patrick Kane or Jonathan Toews, both of whom have three and counting before age 30.Some never win one at all. And then there's Timonen, 40, who in the wildest athlete's dream got his firstin the final game of his long and respected Ferguson Jenkins Jersey career. He lamented before Game 6 overthe near mi ses as a Flyer in the 2010 Stanley Cup Final lo s to the Blackhawks; five international silver medals with Finland, includingthe 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin andhow he couldn't help but let his mind drift tothe what-ifs. Kimmo Timonen and his family celebrating the Cup victory Katie Strang (@KatieStrangESPN) Ten months earlier, this was inconceivable. Doctors told Timonen his chances of playing this season were slim when in August he was hospitalizedwith blood clots in his lower right leg and in bothlungs. MORE: | This, he declared, would be his final profe sional season, should he manage to make the comeback. Edinson Volquez Jersey He did. The Blackhawks acquired Timonen on Feb. 27, trading theirsecond-round picks in the 2015 and 2016 drafts a lofty price to pay for an aging defenseman who hadn't played a game in almost a full calendar year. Sean Leahy (@Sean_Leahy) Timonen played 16 games for the Blackhawks in the regular season. In the playoffs, he became mostly a burden, finding his way in and out of the lineup only because of Chicago's battered defense corps. He averaged le s than 9 minutes per game in the postseason without registering a pointand played just three games in the Stanley Cup Final. This had become the bitter end for a veteran who at one time posted 40-point seasons with ease. But if he got what he came to Chicago for, he could go out a champion Jeffrey Springs Jersey and none of it would matter. "Its been a long journey, I can tell you that," Timonen said. "Last August I didnt know if I could play anymore, but my desire was so deep inside that I wanted to give it one more shot. But obviously doctors said hold onboy. But I just had to have so many meetings to get to this level. ...This was the dream. Every time we talked about my coming back, this was the dream." On Monday, surrounded by his family and 22,424 fans at United Center, tears trickled downTimonen's bearded face as he lifted the Cup, ki sing it once. "I didnt know what to do with it," he said. "I didnt know you could go around the rink with it. It was my first time. I played this game a Danny Santana Jersey long time and battled hard for years. Ive been on the losing side of the story so many times that I know guys realize that. They know that Im going to retire. This was my last game, my last time with skates on. The respect level goes both ways." "I've been dreaming about this for the last 17 years." Travis Hughes (@TravisSBN) Much is made of to whom the Cup will bepa sed once it leaves the hands of the captain. For Jonathan Toews, the Blackhawks' stoic leader, the decision was simple. During the team'smorning skate Monday,Toews told Timonen he would be the one if and when Chicago Drew Robinson Jersey sealed the deal. "I can't tell you what he said," Toews said with a smirk to reporters after Game 6."He said, 'Holy something' and skated off.'"

The first Battle of Alberta playoff series in 31 Cameron Maybin Jersey years got off to a flying start Wednesday with the host Flames outscoring the Oilers 9-6. This Western Conference second-round opener tied for fifth-highest scoring game in NHL playoff history and it tied a Flames record for goals in a playoff game. A game like this naturally produces lots of other unusual stats and numbers. The Sporting News picked out four of the most interesting ones: MORE: 51 Calgary led 2-0 after 51 seconds in the first period, the fastest two-goal start ever in the playoffs, . Elias Lindholm and Christian Yelich Jersey Andrew Mangiapane scored 25 seconds apart in the first minute, in the first clue that this game would look far different than the Flames' first-round defensive struggle against the Stars. "We were told that it was a boring series last time, so I told the players yesterday we've got to score seven to 10 goals today, knowing full well that they'd probably score five to eight, and then we could win, so that's what we did," Flames coach Darryl Sutter deadpanned after the game. 10 Ten of the 12 Flames forwards recorded points in the game. Only Milan Lucic (9:46 time on ice) and Dillon Dube (13:52 TOI) failed to get on the scoresheet. Matthew Tkachuk scored his first playoff hat trick, Blake Coleman had his first two goals of the postseason and Johnny Gaudreau chipped in three a sists. "Overdue," Coleman said of finally getting into the goal column. "There's a lot of different ways to contribute in the playoffs and I try to find different ways to do it if I'm not scoring, but Caleb Smith Jersey obviously on a night like tonight it's a good thing that the pucks are going in because we needed every goal we could get." .786 The save percentage of winning goalie Jacob Markstrom. The Flames stalwart allowed six goals on 28 Oilers shots, including four on 11 shots in the second period as Edmonton rallied to cut Calgary's lead to 6-5 Neil Walker Jersey after 40 minutes. He bounced back to stop nine of 10 in the third and turn back the Oilers after they tied the game 6-6. "He gives us tons of confidence," Flames forward Matthew Tkachuk said. "He said before the third, he was like, 'You guys keep doing your thing, I'm going to shut the door for you,' and that's exactly what he did. He's been our MVP all year. It's on us for Jorge Alfaro Jersey pretty much every goal that went in earlier, whether it was turnover, just not working or just mental mistakes." In contrast, Edmonton goalies Mike Smith and Mikko Koskinen posted an .830 percentage (39 on 47 shots; Calgary's final goal was an empty-netter). 1 Of the 15 total goals, just one was scored on the power play. Tkachuk scored it in the second period to put Calgary up 6-2. The Flames were 1 for 3 with the man advantage while the Oilers, led by Connor McDavid and Leon Corey Dickerson Jersey Draisaitl, went 0 for 4. "We really didn't get any momentum going on our PP," Draisaitl said. "That's another thing that we're obviously looking to improve and be better next game." And that next game, Game 2 in the best-of-seven series, will be Friday in Calgary.

Kings forward Brendan Lemieux won't skate for Los Angeles' next five matches. Lemieux will sit out during a five-game suspension after he gnawed on Brady Tkachuk's left Ivan Nova Jersey hand during the Kings' 4-2 victory on Saturday night. He will also forfeit $38,750 in salary. He initially was a se sed a match penalty and ejected from the matchup, but the NHL Department of Player Safety announced the Josh Bell Jersey suspension and fine on Tuesday The video review shows Lemieux engaging with Tkachuk from the back. Then, the two go down to wrestle on the ice. The camera angle shows Tkachuk's hands getting caught in Lemieux's face before they were forcibly separated by Melky Cabrera Jersey officials. MORE: Although Tkachuk got up and explained to officials that Lemieux bit him he even showed off his bloodied right hand the NHL explained that the suspension was a result of the first bite to Tkachuk's left hand as they fell to the ice. "This is not a hockey play," the NHL said during the video review. "This is a player delivering a forceful, intentional and potentially dangerous bite to the hand of another player with sufficient force to puncture the skin. Such actions will not be tolerated. MORE: The suspension John Jaso Jersey this time for biting marks Lemieux's third of his career. He was most recently suspended for two games in 2020 for an illegal check on Avalanche forward Joonas Donskoi. He was also suspended for two games in 2018 for an illegal check to the head of then-Panthers forward Vincent Trocheck. NEWARK, N.J. In the second episode of the Amazon Prime Original docuseries, "All or Nothing: Toronto Maple Leafs," fans are taken inside the short-lived tenure of Jimmy Blank Jersey Vesey in 2021. "We brought you here with a good opportunity in wanting you to make a difference," coach Sheldon Keefe tells Vesey after pulling him aside for a one-on-one. "I want to be sure that you know, it's been very vanilla." By the end of the 46-minute episode, Vesey is heading west after being picked up on waivers by the Canucks. "Yeah, it was tough. It was my first move mid-season. I had been traded before but it was in the summer so it was a little stre sful," Vesey said. "I gue s in general, last year seemed pretty long for me. I had gone to Toronto two months before the season and then, obviously, halfway through I ended up in Vancouver and we had a COVID shut down while I was there. The season got extended. So it's a tough year, stre sful at times ... a bit chaotic but happy to be here." 'ALL OR NOTHING': | Here is New Jersey. Standing in front of reporters in the bowels of the Prudential Center during media day, the 28-year-old is sporting a red hoodie with "Devils Hockey" emblazoned on the front and his (new) No. 16 in the corner. But a future in the Garden State is not guaranteed for the 2016 Hobey Baker Award winner. He's on a PTO. "He has to reinvent himself. He has to be really good defensively. He has to be a good special teams player. He has to bring physicality, which I think he can. I've seen Jimmy play with a lot of bite and that's an area that I think Tres Barrera Jersey can help our club," noted Devils coach Lindy Ruff, who was an a sistant on Alain Vigneault's staff in New York during Vesey's sophomore and junior NHL seasons. "He knows he's desperate to earn a job on this team and has to earn a job; I'll just say that. There's other young guys that are gonna push him for that same position and I think inside he Brian Dozier Jersey realizes this is a chance he can't me s up on." General manager Tom Fitzgerald said that while Vesey was brought in to push the rest of the group and create competition, there is "an opportunity here to make the team" adding he's not "Whistling 'Dixie' here," to show he's serious. Things look promising so far for Vesey, who in the preseason's first intrasquad scrimmage put up three points. It harkens back to a guy who was a highly sought-after prospect once his four years at Harvard came to a close. It's also reminiscent of a winger who posted 90 Joe Blanton Jersey points (50 goals, 40 a sists) in three seasons 35 in 2018-19, where he "thought I kind of had it figured out" acro s the Hudson River with the Rangers. However, the last two years were anything but ideal: 30 points in 114 games between the Sabres, Maple Leafs and, his last stop, the Canucks. "I got picked up by them on waivers and thought this is a great opportunity. I had four games and I thought I played well and then the COVID shutdown kind of deflated everybody," recalled Vesey. On March 31, the Canucks-Flames game was suspended within an hour of puck drop, starting of Vancouver's season. 2021-22 SEASON: It just added another tough layer to an already hard 2021 for the Ma sachusetts native. He was in Canada two months before the season started, and stayed through the end Brian Goodwin Jersey of the extended campaign without the po sibility of family or friends based in the United States visiting. "It made for a long year," he said. "I think there was some anxiety that came with that as well, especially down the stretch in Vancouver. The shutdown was pretty brutal to be honest. I never actually got COVID in that time but still wasn't allowed to leave other than to get swabbed. "It felt like the walls were closing in on me at points and we ended up having to play I think 19 games in 30 or 31 days so, it was a lot to handle. I'm stronger having gone through that." MORE: A stronger, focused Vesey is certainly someone who could help a young Devils squad aiming for their first postseason appearance since 2018, and just their second since a Stanley Cup Final spot in 2012. If he does ink a new deal, he would be expected to play a bottom-six role on the wing while also seeing penalty-killing duties. In 30 games with the Leafs, he Javy Guerra Jersey ranked 10th in shorthanded total ice time (25:31) and was second on the Canucks in power-play goals against per 60 minutes (3.81) despite playing just 20 games and 31:31 of SH TOI. In the Devils preseason game Wednesday against the Capitals, Vesey skated on the wing with captain Nico Hischier at center and 2019 draft pick Graeme Clarke on the right wing. He was on the ice for an even-strength and a power-play goal against over the course of his 15:46 2:44 of that while the team was shorthanded. "You need to find something that's going to be your thing," Keefe told Vesey, who was struggling to find his game, and maybe some confidence, with Toronto. Well, maybe this is the thing that'll help Vesey earn his next NHL contract.

The Maple Leafs' rebuild has seen Toronto go from picking first overall in the 2015 NHL Draft, to making the Stanley Cup Playoffs in 2017, to looking like they'll get back to the postseason in 2018. But now, one of the leading executives behind Travis D'Arnaud Jersey the club's transformation reportedly is considering a shift in hisrole within the organization. During"Hockey Night in Canada's" Headlinessegment aired during intermi sion of the Stadium Series game Saturday, the topic of general managers who entered this season without contracts was raised. Sportsnet's Nick Kpyreos reportedtheCapitals had come to a multi-year agreement with Brian McLellan, one of the executives who entered this Nolan Ryan Jersey season in the final year of a deal. According to Kypreos that left two general managers in that situation of not having an agreement beyond this season: Ken Holland of the Red Wings, and Lou Lamoriello of the Maple Leafs. MORE: But Elliotte Friedman quickly jumped in, and said the situation in Toronto may be a bit different. "Technically, I don't think Lou Lamoriello is in the last year of his contract," he said. "There is term. The question is, Chris Johnston : Is the term as general manager, or is there another role he will take in the organization? Technically I don't think he's in the last year of his deal." Lamoriello joined the Maple Leafs in 2015. Marcus Stroman Jersey A year prior to that, Kyle Dubas was hired as the team's a sistant general manager at the age of 28. When team president Brendan Shanahan fired Dave Nonis the following season, but elected to hire Lamoriello instead of promoting Dubas, many thought that Lamoriello would be used to help groom Dubas to eventually be ready to a sume that post. "It's important when we talk about Lou Lamoriello's future to emphasize that this is under the purview of one man," Johnston said. "That's Brendan Shanahan, the president of the Leafs, and anyone at any time can change their minds. "But there have been whispers out there that going Jacob DeGrom Jersey back to last summer, there was a meeting where it was stated out loud in a group setting that this would be Lou Lamoriello's last season as the Keon Broxton Jersey Leafs' general manager, perhaps transitioning to some other role, which explains what you're reporting, having a couple more years on his deal." "I wouldn't be surprised if he's in an advisory role for a couple more years," Friedman added. Lamoriello spent 27 seasons as GM of the Devils before stepping down to accept the job in Toronto. Dubas has been an integral part of the Maple Leafs rebuild, running its AHL team, the Marlies, who currently have the best record of any minor league club. It had been reported during the offseason that Dubas had been granted permi sion to speak with the Colorado Avalanche about its open general manager position, but no such talks were ever held. Dubas has maintained that he wants to remain with the Maple Leafs organization, where it Noah Syndergaard Jersey has been presumed that whenever Lamoriello is no longer the general manager, it will be Dubas' job. The is history and the 31 teams are returning to action. With the Feb. 24 trade deadline le s than a month away, fans and pundits will focus in the coming weeks on which players could change clubs. Non-contending teams usually attempt to trade away pending free agents before deadline day, rather than risk losing them for nothing this summer. That trend is expected to continue this year. Here's a look at the top 10 trade candidates and their potential suitors ahead of Braden Bishop Jersey the 2020 trade deadline: 1. Chris Kreider, New York Rangers The top available forward in this summer's unrestricted free agent market, the 6-3, 217-pound Kreider is a big, fast, skilled left winger. While the Rangers are playing coy about his future, they won't lack for suitors should they put him on the trade block. Kreider to the Boston Bruins, Colorado Avalanche, Pittsburgh Penguins, and St. Louis Blues. 2. Tyler Toffoli, Los Angeles Kings A speedy, versatile two-way forward who can play center or wing, the 27-year-old Toffoli could be enticing to clubs unwilling to wait for the Rangers to move Kreider. The Kings are rebuilding and could seek James Paxton Jersey a quality draft pick and a prospect in return. the Calgary Flames could target Toffoli. Their cro s-province rivals, the Edmonton Oilers, could also come calling. 3. Jean-Gabriel Pageau, Ottawa Senators With 19 goals and 31 points in 47 games, Pageau is on pace for a career-high 30 goals and 50 points. Like Toffoli, he's a skilled, two-way forward who can play at center or on the wing. He also elevates his play in the postseason. Pageau's best suited for third-line duty and would be a welcome addition to any club's penalty-killing unit. as many as 15 clubs would expre s interest in the 27-year-old forward. The Penguins, Oilers, and New York Islanders Kyle Lewis Jersey could be among them. 4. Alex Martinez, Los Angeles Kings Unlike most on this list, Martinez isn't a free agent at season's end. He's signed to the end of 2020-21 with an affordable $4 million annual average salary. The skilful 31-year-old defenseman has considerable playoff experience, helping the Kings win two Stanley Cups. the Avalanche, Carolina Hurricanesand Winnipeg Jets as po sible destinations. 5. Sami Vatanen, New Jersey Devils With the Devils having already shaken up their management and coaching staff, and havingshipped star winger Taylor Hall to Arizona, more changes could be in store before the deadline. An experienced, underrated performer, Vatanen is a dependable all-around defenseman who will draw interest in the trade market. In early December, the 28-year-old blueliner would be a good fit with the Vegas Golden Knights. MORE: 6. Alexandar Georgiev, New York Rangers Georgiev has done well backing up veteran goaltender Henrik Lundqvist. With promising Igor Shesterkin considered Lundqvist's heir apparent, Georgiev could be the odd-man-out. The 23-year-old netminder carries a very affordable $792,000salary and becomes a restricted free agent this summer. The Toronto Maple Leafs are in dire need of a reliable, cost-effective backup. they've made multiple Tim Beckham Jersey inquiries about Georgiev. 7. Brenden Dillon, San Jose Sharks Dillon keeps surfacing in the rumor mill as the Sharks playoff hopes fade. The 6-4, 225-pound defenseman's size and physical style could make him attractive for playoff contenders seeking a shutdown rearguard. the Maple Leafs could be interested in Dillon. The Jets, Islanders and Florida Panthers could also get into the bidding for his services. 8. Mikael Granlund, Nashville Predators A slick playmaker with two 60-point seasons on his resume, Granlund's struggled since getting traded to Nashville last season. If the Predators fail Carlos Ruiz Jersey to gain ground in the playoff chase, the 27-year-old winger could be shopped at the deadline. While the decline in his production is troubling, he might regain his touch on a deeper roster. He could prove a decent option for the Bruins or Penguins. MORE: 9. Andreas Athanasiou, Detroit Red Wings Athanasiou, 25, is slated to become a restricted free agent with arbitration rights this summer. He tallied a career-high 30 goals and 54 points in 2018-19, but his production plummeted to just five goals and 19 points thus far this season. Hampered by injury and inconsistency, he might Dan Altavilla Jersey not have a future with the rebuilding Red Wings. GM Steve Yzerman could test Athanasiou's value in the trade market. 10. Ilya Kovalchuk, Montreal Canadiens The 36-year-old former scoring star was considered washed-up following his contract termination with the Kings last month. Signed to a one-year, $700,000 deal with the Canadiens, Kovalchuk tallied eight points in nine games and seems rejuvenated in Montreal. That's generated growing speculation he could be shipped to a playoff contender for a draft pick. If he maintains his current level of production, his trade value should rise as deadline day approaches.
